Cynergy PDL/Nd:YAG Multiplex Laser - Broken Capillaries, Redness of the Face Neck and Chest
The Cynergy treats vascular lesions with unsurpassed efficacy and minimal side-effects. This is because of the multiplex technology which enables the sequential emission of two wavelengths from the same delivery system - a high-powered pulse dye laser and a 1064 long pulse Nd:YAG laser.
Benefits
Both wavelengths are ideal for performing vascular-related applications. The pulse dye laser is the "golden standard" for targeting vascular lesions. The Nd:YAG laser is most effective at treating larger facial and leg veins.
Alternatives
Gemini (KTP/Nd:YAG laser) .
How Does it Work?
The laser has two wavelengths - one for the pulse dye laser and 1064 (Nd:YAG) laser. Both wavelengths can be used either separately or in combination, which is called multiplex sequential dual wavelength technology. This has been proven to be more efficacious than single wavelength technology because it allows the development of client-specific treatment options.
Who is a Candidate?
Non-tanned, light skin types are the best candidates.
What Can I Expect?
Reduction in the number of blood vessels following treatment.
Safety and Side-Effects
- Soreness and Redness - may occur as a result of an open wound. The chances of this are small.
- Swelling - this is common, especially on the upper cheeks and forehead, but usually subsides within a few days. Ice can be applied after treatment to limit swelling.
- Scarring - there is a very small risk of scarring, including indented and thickened scars. Scarring is rare, but may occur.
- Blistering - during treatment may be an indication of sun exposure or excessive fluence setting for the skin type. Blistering can occur during the first three days following the laser procedure. Blistered areas should be kept moist with an antibiotic ointment until healed.
- Other acute changes occasionally associated with laser treatment may include scaling or scabbing. These changes are most often associated with higher energies. The incidence of these changes diminishes when the treatment energy is reduced.
- Incomplete result - the condition treated may not be completely or even effectively treated with one treatment and may require another sesssion or sessions.
Recovery Time
Around two to three days.
Does it Hurt?
At the time of treatment there is cold air directed on to the treatment site which minimizes pain, but patients certainly benefit from the use of a topical anaesthetic cream which is usually applied 45 minutes before treatment.
Before Treatment Instructions
Avoidance of tanning and excessive sun exposure for four weeks prior to treatment.
After Treatment Instructions
For one week after treatment, you will be asked to follow the care instructions listed below to minimize risk of complications from the procedure:
- Wash gently with soap and water. We suggest Cetaphil or Neutrogena Extra Gentle cleanser.
- If necessary, moisturizing creams may well be needed to keep the skin well moistened.
- Paracetamol is suggested to control pain (if required).
- No shaving over the treated area.
- Avoid all sun exposure and tanning beds if the treated area appears irritated.
- Apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. We would suggest Neutrogena Age Shield 70 once the healing has been completed.
- No contact sports during the healing phase.
